Quick start guide

NovyDeco in ten minutes

The main screen, icon by icon, then your first planned dive in three steps. Tap or hover the areas of the screenshot to read what they do.

The main screen

A rebreather plan at 70 m for 20 min, with the tooltip open. Every numbered area is clickable; the full list follows the screenshot.

The main screen
All areas
  1. Open-circuit mode — The regulator icon selects open-circuit mode: OC plan and its “OC max” plan. Each dive keeps its OC and CCR settings separately.
  2. Rebreather mode (CCR) — The rebreather icon switches to CCR mode: diluent, setpoint, bail-out gases. It is lit here, the dive shown is a rebreather plan.
  3. Dive navigation — “1/1” shows the current dive and how many dives are in the series. The left arrow goes back; the “+” (or right arrow) moves to the next dive or adds one, with its surface interval.
  4. Interface settings — Display settings: light/dark theme, colours, units, tooltip contents, advanced options. Computation settings live in the icon bar (sliders).
  5. Menu — Save the planning, reopen saved plannings, import a UDDF file, open the logbook, insert or remove a dive, edit the surface interval, reset, about.
  6. Tools — Calculators independent from the plan: best mix for a depth and ppO₂, ideal gases for a whole dive (bottom, travel, deco) in OC or CCR, gas factory...
  7. Dive tab — One tab per dive in the series (1, 2, 3…). A long press opens the dive menu: copy, rename, surface interval, insert or remove.
  8. Recap — Overview of the series: every dive with its gases, duration and deco, to check the sequence and surface intervals.
  9. Compare — Overlays several dives on one chart and generates gradient-factor variants to visualise their effect on deco.
  10. CCR plan — The rebreather plan as programmed: 20 min bottom time here. The selected chip is the one whose profile is displayed.
  11. BO plan (bail-out) — The open-circuit ascent on the bail-out gases if the loop is abandoned at the end of the planned bottom time.
  12. CCR max — Maximum bottom time on the loop within your limits (gas, CNS, OTU, reserve). Answers “how far can I extend?”.
  13. BO max — Maximum bottom time for which the bail-out gases are still enough to ascend. If BO max is shorter than the CCR plan, shorten the dive or carry more gas.
  14. Plan summary — Max depth, total time (bottom + ascent), TTS (total ascent time from the end of the bottom phase), bottom time, and GF low/high (or conservatism level with VPM-B).
  15. Icon bar — The ten actions on the dive: settings, segments, gases, recompute, runtime, PDF, logbook, curves, computer, reset. Each icon is detailed in the next section.
  16. Profile header — Reminder of the computation conditions: model and gradient factors (Bühlmann 50/75), depth, bottom time, altitude, fresh or salt water.
  17. Dive profile — Depth over time (left scale), cylinder pressure (right scale, in bar). The coloured gradient shows the ceilings of the 16 compartments: as long as the line stays below the ceiling, the ascent is allowed. Pinch to zoom, touch to open the tooltip.
  18. Tooltip — Appears when touching the profile and follows your finger: time, depth, ceiling, current GF, speed, loop composition, NDL, CNS, OTU, computed and diluent ppO₂, ppN₂, and the tissue bar graph. Its contents can be customised in the settings.
  19. Display toggles — Pencil: touch editing of the profile. BO, BO MAX, CCR MAX: overlay the companion plan on the displayed one. VPM (or Buhl.): overlay the other model. Check: tooltip enabled. Bars: bar graph type inside the tooltip.
  20. Resize handle — Drag the triangle downwards to enlarge the chart.
  21. Ascent simulation — Linked to the tooltip: if you ascended from the touched point (“From 38.3 m”), here are the total time, TTS, elapsed bottom time and first-stop depth. On the loop in CCR, or on bail-out depending on the displayed plan.
  22. Stops — Expand for the list of stops: depth, duration, extend a stop.
  23. Configure the dive — The starting point: depth, time, setpoint and number of gases are enough, NovyDeco proposes the mixes. See the chapter “Configure your first dive”.
  24. Advanced segments and gases — Beyond the quick dialog: multi-level profile segment by segment, gases with cylinder volume and pressure, diluent / bail-out usage.

The icon bar

Ten actions on the dive, grouped by dividers: what you set, what you compute, what you consult, the computer, and at the very end the reset.

The icon bar

Set

01

Dive settings

Everything that drives the computation: gradient factors, conservatism VPM, bottom / deco / surface ppO₂, consumption rates, speeds, last-stop depth, altitude, water type...

02

Edit segments

The profile step by step: depth and duration of each segment, intermediate descents and ascents, multi-level profiles.

03

Edit a gas

Mix (O₂ / He), cylinder volume and pressure, diluent or bail-out usage. With several gases, a list asks which one to edit, or adds one.

Compute and export

04

Recompute

Runs the computation of this dive again after a change of setting, segment or gas. Usefull if automatic recompute fails.

05

Runtime

The plan as a table: depth, duration, run time, gas, ppO₂, END, CNS and OTU for every line.

06

Export to PDF

Generates a PDF of the dive (profile, runtime, gases) to print or share.

Consult

07

Logbook

Opens the logbook: trips, dives, buddies, equipment, Bluetooth import from the dive computer.

08

Curves and ceilings

Expands the curve selector: per-compartment ceilings, Bühlmann or VPM profile and ceilings, M-values, gases.

Simulate

09

Dive computer

Starts the simulator: the plan is replayed minute by minute like on a computer screen (depth, stop, TTS, ppO₂, tissues).

Clear

10

Reset

Clears the whole planning (dives, segments, gases, computation settings) after confirmation.

The display toggles

Under the chart, seven toggles set what is drawn: editing, overlaid plans, and the tooltip. Opacity tells the state: on or off.

The display toggles

Edit

01

Profile editing

Enables touch editing of the profile: move the key points of the line; the + and − buttons add or remove a point.

Overlay a plan

02

Overlay the BO plan

Draws the bail-out plan over the displayed CCR plan: you see where the open-circuit ascent goes compared with the loop. One click overlays the BO plan; a second click makes it the primary view (showing the tooltip and dive summary for the BO plan).

03

Overlay BO max

Overlays the BO max plan: how much the bottom time would have to be shortened for the bail-out gases to be enough. One click overlays the BO max plan; a second click makes it the primary view (showing the tooltip and dive summary for the BO max plan).

04

Overlay CCR max

Overlays the CCR max plan: the longest possible dive on the loop within your limits. One click overlays the CCR max plan; a second click makes it the primary view (showing the tooltip and dive summary for the CCR max plan).

05

Overlay the other model

Shows VPM-B over Bühlmann (or the reverse, depending on the leading model). The small V / B buttons pick which one drives the tooltip and the summary card. A greyed button means the companion plan is not computed or the combination is excluded.

Tooltip

06

Tooltip

Enables or disables the tooltip that follows your finger on the line.

07

Bar graph

Picks the bar graph drawn inside the tooltip: tissues, tissues / ambient pressure, or none.

Configure your first dive

Three steps are enough for a first complete plan. The example is on a rebreather; on open circuit the dialog is the same without the setpoint.

  1. Step 1: rebreather mode, no plan yet
Step 1: rebreather mode, no plan yet

Pick the mode and open the dialog

Select the cylinder (open circuit) or the mask (rebreather) at the top left. While no plan exists, the screen shows “No result”. Tap the orange Configure the dive button.

  2. Step 2: the Configure the dive dialog
Step 2: the Configure the dive dialog

Describe the dive, let NovyDeco propose the gases

Depth and duration of the bottom segment, loop setpoint, number of gases, last gas-switch depth, bottom-to-travel switch ppO₂ and target END. The top frame summarises the proposed mixes (diluent and bail-outs) with their ppO₂ at the switch depths. The Dil/BO1 and BO2 buttons open each gas to adjust it. Validate starts the computation.

  3. Step 3: the computed plan
    Step 3: the computed plan

    Read the plan

The profile appears with the staircase of stops and the coloured ceilings. The chips give the CCR plan, the bail-out plan and the “max” variants; the card summarises depth, total time, TTS, bottom time and GF. Expand Stops for the list, or Advanced segments and gases to refine segment by segment.
